We’re advancing Digital Inclusion:

In Papua New Guinea, poorly resourced schools are leading to under-supported teachers, low attendance, and failing education outcomes. IE supported training of teachers in online teaching and learning. These tools reached 250 educators and 7000 students.

We're building skills for life:

In Vietnam, Save the Children’s proven Literacy Boost Approach helps primary age children read and write by training teachers, parents and community members. Parent Clubs are set up to train parents and provide opportunities for ongoing peer support. But parents have struggled to attend face to face Parent Clubs due to the competing demands on their time, and COVID-19 made Parent Clubs almost impossible. IE worked with Save the Children Vietnam to integrate online and offline learning sessions to support parents accessing the online Parent Club.

One staff member noted “we did not think local partners would appreciate this move away from more traditional ways of working. But, local partners, particularly the Provincial Department of Education have been very keen and are exploring how this approach can be shared more widely.

We're improving education outcomes:

In 2020, Tonga’s education system was impacted by two emergencies: Tropical Cyclone Harold and the COVID-19 pandemic. In the aftermath of the cyclone, 2000 students had their education interrupted. Working with Tonga’s Ministry of Education and Training, the teachers produced 658 homeschooling video lessons, and delivered a homebased learning guide to 400 families. We supported capacity building of teachers, training 362 teachers to effectively use new modes of distance learning.
